This album is one evening, live, on Twitch, with friends chatting, asking for pieces in various keys. They are complete improvisations- absolutely no "plans" or forethought, just exploring the landscape.
There are several "themes" (4th and 5ths) that keep creeping in throughout the improvisations, so there is some sense of cohesion as a result.
The original recording is a video of a single Twitch broadcast, and the audio was stripped, edited for beginnings and endings, lightly mastered, levels set in Ozone9 Advanced via Digital Performer10 on some lovely Amphion monitors.
The original videos are up on Twitch for a limited time, then eventually transferred to YouTube (with a loss in audio quality).
The aesthetic behind the sounds of the evening were the massive influence that Kieth Jarrett had over me as a young person. He freed me to improvise, and explore- even though I was studying strictly classical piano and composition- this was a ticket to freedom for me.
When I heard he had suffered a stroke, and had lost the ability to play, it wounded deep in my soul. It really deeply made me sad for him. In a way, it is my form of mourning for his loss. I often do not improvise in such a tonal fashion, but its the influence of KJ and his remarkable "Köln Concert" recording that is the spirit behind the sounds this evening.
If you enjoy, please consider supporting your artists, and purchase a download (especially during these hard times), and leave a review of what you think. Consider spreading the word. As there is no marketing here, it would be hugely appreciated.
