"Brahms' Alarm Clock" sheet music for solo Violin, solo Viola, or solo Cello

from Istvan Peter B'Racz

Sheet Music + Digital Album

Brahms’ Alarm Clock for solo violin is a fun, bouncy, showy piece. It is tonally accessible to most, and a bit “adventuresome” in a few short places. It uses traditional playing techniques, and has a sense of “bravura”. Taking advantage of open strings somewhat “informed” the sound in some passages. Besides playfully punning on “lullaby” as an “alarm” and the clock part, as well as the violin concerto, there is also small quote from an Gregorian chant from old Hungary. Initially written for the violin, it had its initial version performed back in 1995, then sat dormant for many years. “I took it out recently, while learning a new notation program that allowed me to now represent what I had wanted back then (being more mature, and supposedly wiser - both me, and the notation programs). I also decided to make a version of this for Viola and for the Cello, keeping the same relationship of open string use.”
