"The Machines Won" for piano solo (score)

from Istvan Peter B'Racz

Sheet Music

“The Machines Won” for piano solo was written as a small commission for the Rivers School Conservatory in 2017. The score is beautifully printed on 8.5x11" paper, saddle-stitched to lay flat. Purchasing this score will automatically include a download of the MIDI realization.

It is an easy-intermediate work.
The work is tonal, but begins with a low cluster.
Emerging from the opening cluster are spread-out sonorities that seem somewhat “careful”. Suddenly changing into an obsessive motoric middle section, the music leads the listener through a gradual evolution of thematic material, shifting gears to climax on a glorious pianistic high, but ending somewhat sober (hence the title).

A fun introduction to performers to 21st Century music,
it has been well received by audiences.

duration ca.: 5’30”

Istvan Peter B’Racz’s works have been performed/played in many venues throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and on the airwaves. He especially enjoys working with other artists, and was the Artistic Director/founder of the “NMS Faculty Worx", “NMS Students Worx", “NMS Three C’s Composition Challenge”, “New Haven Worx” and “SOUNDunderGROUND” concert series in New Haven, CT, throughout the years.

For him, the essence of composing is creating large-scale blue-prints/structures, then delighting in the details. Often an aesthetic/philosophy/dream/process/game operates as structural glue in his works- not outwardly obvious in many cases. His sound ranges from purely tonal writing, to atonal- varying styles to fit the venue and piece itself.

Influences: electronic, avant garde, electronica, orchestral, break-core, traditional classical, sound mass, tonal, atonal, soundtracks, ambient, “popular” music (1900 to present), folk-music, Aboriginal music, Himalayan music, sounds of nature and space, glitch, hard-core, pre 1600, ancient music, punk, etc. He enjoys performing new works for the keyboard (and various controllers) mixing elements, traditions and influences.

Currently an active member in “Sub-Verse”, as well as an honorary member of “Loop2.4.3” in NYC, and composer/music director for the “Projects for a New Millennium” group (www.projects2k.org) which produces large outdoor spectacles (see Quarry shows in Stony Creek, CT). He immensely enjoyed performing/ collaborating with other musicians in the group known as “Goo-rilla”, and performing in chamber concerts, and new music venues.
Istvan studied composition, electronic music, and conducting at the Hartt School of Music, piano at the Yale School of Music, Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest Hungary (awarded a Fulbright Grant), composition and piano at the Oberlin Conservatory, Neighborhood Music School (NMS), and the Educational Center for the Arts (ECA).

He taught piano and composition as well as music technology at CCSU, as well as at ECA and NMS. Currently, he teaches piano, composition and ear-training at NMS, piano at SCSU and UNH (New Haven), and Composition/Audio Production at ECA. He also records, edits, and produces works of his own and others in his extremely fun project-studio “The DUNGEON” in CT.
