We, the Ratatatats...

from Electronic Music Sampler vol.1 by Istvan Peter B'Racz

about

(2008) Electronic work created for and performed live at the 2008 SOUNDunderGROUND concert. Premiered at the SOUNDunderGROUND 2008 concert, also performed at the SFOS rooftop festival in NYC in September of 2008.

The original sound file I used in this piece came from a tape manipulation work (Nature Papure) I made over a quarter century before the current remix called "We, the Ratatatats..." The original sound source was a pair of wine glasses being clanked and rubbed. The Erase-head on the Sony TC-377 reel to reel had a switch installed where I could disconnect it (thanks Karl Fusaris!), so I could do very long loops and merge-record on top of what was already there causing saturation. I also manipulated manually the speeds whilst recording both slowing it down and speeding it up greatly. The re-mix was done in Abelton LIVE, and is a manipulation of a recording of a live tape-manipulation performance. Yes, I like to say the word "manipulation". Manipulation.
