"Tábla Rasa D.E.A.D. (Téma and 9 Variations)"
is a long-form dark experimental ambient drone live performance.
"Tábla" is a multi-lingual pun (meaning 'board' (as in chalk-board) in Hungarian, as well as a mis-spelling of Tabula, and ironic inference of the Tabla). Also the use of the Hungarian spelling of "Téma" for Theme gives it a deeper cross-lingual meaning.
Originally one long performance at over three hours, I had to cut it up for BandCamp, of course, which makes it more digestible for most tastes, I suppose. It is strongly influenced by the aesthetics of LaMonte Young, and the early minimalists- yet it’s a giant “theme and variations via more modern digital real-time manipulation”. The splitting into various segments also ended up "creating a mythology".
In it I play a bowed bass guitar, put through a very very slow delay which in essence creates a type of multilayered canon at the unison. Then I time stretch (and sometimes pitch-shift) this to make it a different type of drone, as I play other things on top of it- each recorded, and then manipulated to become a giant drone of its own. After having created several of these "drone-worlds" (some of which may last many hours), I alternate them (cross-fade, or play with) and react, and play on top of these- creating more variations on the original “themes”. In the last "movement" you may hear a tribute to the recently passed member of The Stars of the Lid as a thematic quote on the Rhodes.
Lately I have been exploring the longer forms in live performance, and slowing down the experience as to form a vast landscape. I find stories and musical drama embedded in these immense landscapes, and I hope that you- dear listener- will as well.

This was a live streaming performance on Twitch, with the persona "effin_izzy" for a Dark Experimental Ambient Drone [D.E.A.D.] raid-train run by AnaRchYinBedRoK.
Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of it, and allow me to stretch in this fashion. It was rather refreshing to "be allowed" to do this, and have such great folks in chat be so supportive.
Instruments used in the recording:
Steinway M (on loan from the Venter family), Fender Rhodes 73, Ibanez acoustic Bass guitar with flat wound strings and a viola bow, Roland V-Synth, Arturia Matrixbrute, Technics turntable and a few records.
All instruments, various record sample snippets manipulated, played by Istvan Peter B'Racz.
Mixed live, recorded live with Ableton LIVE, finalized for release using Digital Performer in The Dungeon Studio in Hamden, CT by B'Racz.
I would like to thank my dear family for their love and support, without which NONE of this would ever have been possible, as well as Lydia, for putting up with me, and Ziggy for being a goof and reminding me that I need to play with him more.
